Telecom operators like Jio and Airtel have launched a lots of Ad campaigns to increase the sales and increase the brand value.
Airtel has launched a Ad suggesting that it is offering “live and free” access to the IPL cricket live streaming. This Advert did not go in well w8ith Relaianc Jio as it filed a suit in the Delhi High Court against Airtel for putting on “the false, deceptive and misleading commercial/advertisements”.
Reliance Jio also tells the court that Airtel is telling a lie when it says that a subscriber just needs to have an Airtel 4G sim and download the Airtel TV app for obtaining the digital “season pass” that gives him live and free access to IPL matches.
The court agreed with Reliance Jio and instructed Airtel to display on its Advert for the subscribers who will watch the live match – “a) the subscription of HOTSTAR shall only be free, and b) the data charges will be as per subscriber’s tariff plan.”
Bharti Airtel accepted the verdict of the court and decided to edit its campaign. It will now display the content as instructed by the court and run the Advert.
Subscribers have to pay for the data charges as per the tariff rates and only subscription to Hotstar is free. The changes are to be applied with immediate effect.
